Starbucks Japan is celebrating Halloween 2026 with a playful new beverage inspired by a mysterious purple cat hiding in an enchanted forest. The limited-edition drink combines fruity flavours with chocolate elements, bringing together seasonal storytelling and creative beverage design.
Launched on October 9, the Blackberry Yogurt Frappuccino comes in two versions: Black Ears and White Ears. Both feature a purple drink topped with cat-ear-shaped chocolate, allowing customers to choose between two different looks and flavours.

The beverage combines blueberry yoghurt with blackberry chocolate sauce, creating a blend of fruity tartness, sweetness and chocolate depth. The black-ear version features darker chocolate, while the white-ear version uses white chocolate for a creamier, sweeter finish.
More than just a seasonal drink
Starbucks has extended the Halloween theme beyond the beverage itself. The campaign invites customers to search for the fictional Phantom Purple Cat in stores and on social media, turning the product launch into an interactive experience.
The seasonal menu also includes a Matcha Anko Butter Chocolate Scone Sandwich. Made with dark-coloured chocolate scone dough and filled with matcha bean paste and butter, the treat adds another distinctive item to the Halloween collection.
The drinks were introduced at participating Starbucks locations across Japan, with prices starting at ¥717 for takeaway and ¥730 for in-store consumption for a Tall-size Frappuccino.
What this means for the chocolate industry
Although the Frappuccino is not a conventional chocolate drink, its blackberry chocolate sauce and chocolate decorations demonstrate how chocolate can be incorporated into beverages to create distinctive seasonal products.
The launch also highlights a wider confectionery and food-service trend: brands are using imaginative themes, eye-catching presentation and limited-time offerings to encourage customers to try familiar products in new ways.
For chocolate makers and beverage businesses, collaborations between chocolate flavours and drinks offer opportunities to reach consumers who may not be shopping for a traditional chocolate bar.
At Macao Cacao, we follow the latest chocolate innovations, product launches and creative ways brands are bringing chocolate into everyday experiences.
